Pet Portrait of Ozzie

It’s been so much fun doing this portrait of Ozzie. I love his expression and the angle of the reference picture. The combination of black and white fur also makes this project really fun. Did you know that black fur isn’t really made up of just “black” color, and white fur reflects all the colors around it? So to color the black fur, I layered different grays, blue, sepia, and black to make it look rich and not flat.

For the background, I got the inspiration of the blue and yellow checkered pattern from the reference picture. Instead of just copying it, I think this is more fun and suits Ozzie well! What do you think of little paw prints, don’t they add a little “mischievous” side of Ozzie?
